Where are you located?
We are located at 125 Wiltshire Avenue in St. Matthews, behind Bicycle Sport and Kayrouz.
What age child may participate in Homework Hall?
Children entering fourth grade - twelfth grades. Some parents may worry their 16 year-old won't want to be in a class with a fourth grader but we would like to emphasize the students will be doing independent work with guidance from the tutors. At no time will the students be addressed as a class and socializing is not a part of the program. If a student disrupts or tries to engage in conversations with other students and does not respond to requests to stop or go to the reading nook he or she will simply be asked to leave the premises for the day. We will call a parent for pick up. If this behavior persists his or her membership will be canceled. It must be noted, however, in our teaching experiences, if a high level of respect for the routines is established in the beginning students will follow suit. We don't expect to have to deny any child access to this service.
Will this service keep me informed about my child's schoolwork?
Absolutely. Although Homework Hall has been designed to alleviate the pressures family members sometimes endure in association with nightly homework, we know parents want to keep the connection they gain with their children during homework hours, as well as keep apprised of the content of their daily work load. Because of this you always have the option to attend Homework Hall anytime you would like to help your child with their assignments. And, of course, students always have the option to do all or part of any of their assignments at home.
For further communication, your child will be assigned a home teacher who will be responsible for assisting students in keeping highly organized agendas with detailed information on nightly assignments, a calendar with upcoming tests / projects and their due dates, as well as a record of grades and teachers' comments. Your child's home teacher will also keep up an ongoing communication with you through phone calls, emails and conferences if needed. If we see your child is not keeping up a high caliber of work we will contact you immediately.
Are the tutors qualified to assist my child?
As teachers ourselves we know instruction is only as good as the instructor, so we made a commitment to have the best educators Louisville has to offer. We also know the only way to get the most experienced and successful teachers is to pay them the rate they deserve so we do so gladly. Also, when we choose our tutors we look for enthusiasm, instinct, and creativity on top of their proven records. It is important your child be instructed by people who have a "gift" for teaching.
What supplies will you have for my child to use?
We have a computer lab with wireless internet access, printers, and fundamental art and school supplies. Of course, for some projects your child will need supplies we don't have on hand so we will send a list home for these instances.
How much does a membership for my child cost?
Homework Hall membership costs $125 per week. This is a flat rate and we do not prorate if child is absent.
My child has activities they do after school. Can he / she still be a member?
Yes. We set the times so on the days students have other activities they can still come to complete their homework after they have finished their extended school day. Again, students are not required to come every day or stay all the hours. They may use our facilities, tutors, computer lab and supplies as needed. For those who need to wait for a pick-up but have finished their homework, we have a comfortable reading area in our break room, or we have logic-based games and art projects. We do not allow computer games during down time.
Will my child be safe with you?
As a teacher and parent, I take my responsibility to your family very seriously. We will take every precaution to ensure your child's safety. We will also have a system where your child must inform you when they are coming or going to our facilities. They will not be able to leave unless you have given them permission - either for that day or a blanket permission slip for the older students.
