ACT, PSAT, SAT and CATS prep

We have packages or single sessions to address the specifics of each of the above tests. We are well versed in the format and content of these tests and will give your child specific strategies to utilize, as well as administer mock tests to find areas for concentration. We draw from a variety of sources and utilize modern approaches, such as mnemonics, hands-on activities and even auditory stimuli whenever possible.  We also make sure to relate a variety of tricks and tips to ensure the highest score possible for each student.  A review of overall test taking strategies will be covered as well.  We will use past test scores to zone in on needed concepts.

SAT or ACT PREP PACKAGES INCLUDE:  Diagnostic Exam and Evaluation; 9 - One hour, tailored tutoring sessions (combination of verbal and math); Essay included in verbal; Take home materials for study    $750

If package is not needed, hourly rate of $70 applies.  Unlike other centers, we don't make you sign up for a certain amount of sessions, and, we will use old test scores to plan individualized instruction.

IIf you want your child to take a full diagnostic at some point during instruction our fee for this, which includes test monitoring and grading, is only $150.

One-on-One Tutoring: All subjects / All ages

Maybe your child needs a session to brush up on a specific skill, or a few sessions to help in a specific subject. Maybe instead of Homework Hall you would like your child to come in once or twice a week for one-on-one tutoring to help with their school work. Whatever the reason, we have highly qualified tutors to match to your child's needs.

$70 per hour; or $50 for 40 minutes for younger children

NEW CLIENTS:  FIRST 10 SESSIONS - $60 per hour; $40 for 40 minutes

(excludes test prep which starts at the regular rate)

READING

Once we pinpoint the areas of your child's reading that need strengthening, we integrate varied modern approaches with the much respected and traditional program, Reading Milestones.  If a student struggles with reading, he or she needs to be shown strategies in varied ways until the "light goes on."  For example, retention can be a common issue so we attach a memorable story to many of the tricks associated with word families, chunking, decoding etc.  We believe tutoring can be both fun and effective for the student.

$50 for 40 minutes; $70 for 60 minutes

NEW CLIENTS:  FIRST 10 SESSIONS - $60 per hour; $40 for 40 minutes

Portfolio Assistance / Projects / Tests / Writing Pieces

Homework Hall may not be a good fit for your family so here is an opportunity to still get the benefit of tutoring in a more concentrated manner. This time is spent assisting your child on specific projects, portfolio assignments, tests, or writing pieces. It may be a one time only service to polish a writing piece or study for a test, or a series of sessions to develop a portfolio piece or complete a long-term project.

HOMESCHOOL Hall

Call to discuss our homeschool options.  We have small group instruction with weekly field trips and careful assessment and records of tailored instruction, or, we have one-on-one tutoring to help you supplement your curricula from home.  We thoroughly enjoy taking full advantage of the profound possibilities homeschooling offers. We offer individual tutoring to build skills in reading, writing, math, penmanship, speed reading, test taking, organization and time management.

The Academy Modern Art Club

In this class for same age groups we will use a museum exhibit, or an artist and his or her work to inspire us to make our own piece of artwork. Everyone has an artist in them and you don't have to know how to draw a perfect face to create something. The projects will be in relation to modern art periods such as, Pop Art, Expressionism, Mixed Media etc.

The Academy Book Club

We will offer a once-a-month book club to same age groups of five or more. Again, we will keep a list or you may form your own groups with family or friends.

The Writing Pad

The Writing Pad is a series of classes for same age groups that uses innovative curriculum designed to inspire creativity, dispel fears of writing, and to make the process of writing an enjoyable experience. The philosophy of The Writing Pad is based on the marrying of three principals: Everyone can write, and write well, if their strengths are uncovered, and their interests peaked.

Students are encouraged to "freewrite" which is to write their streams of consciousness - whatever comes to mind. Eventually, an idea of worth manifests a morsel of something that can be developed into a good story or poem. Fun and thought-provoking prompts help facilitate this process, along with other varied sources of inspiration such as, artwork, audio and video clips, and of course, literary excerpts. These classes will be free of grades and tests, in turn, fostering a true love of writing.

Weekend Review

In the elementary years of school it is vital students retain and fully develop the fundamental skills needed to build more complex learning.  We offer a unique service where we communicate each week with teachers about the core concepts covered during the prior school week and spend an hour during the weekend reviewing these concepts with various hands-on activities, mnemonics and other modern approaches.  It is different from our other service Homework Hall because it is a full hour of one-on-one instruction that specifically addresses the last week's learning to prepare for the week ahead.  Today, with class sizes so big, teachers are unable to spend the quality time they would like with each student. This is an opportunity to do so on a consistent basis.

One-on-One Tutoring:    $70 per hour  or  $50 for a 40 minute session

NEW CLIENTS:  FIRST 10 SESSIONS - $60 per hour; $40 for 40 minutes
